SUMMARY:Cervin factory tour
DESCRIPTION:Alan and Sue have arranged a tour of the Cervin factory on the afternoon of Monday\, 7th September. \nCervin is one of the very few places left in the world still producing genuine fully fashioned and RHT stockings on the original Reading machines. The company is renowned for the exceptional quality of its hosiery – not to mention its fabulous packaging. \nThe Trip \nAs it’s rather a long way for a day trip\, those already signed up are planning to stay in the area between 4th and 11th September. \n\nOne group will be flying into Montpellier on Friday 4th\nOthers are driving down earlier and making a two-week holiday of it\n\nMost of us will be staying in a small village just east of Servas in the Languedoc-Roussillon region – around 100 km north of Montpellier and 60 km north-east of the Cervin factory in Sumène. \nWhat to Expect \nThe visit promises to be a fascinating look behind the scenes at one of the last traditional hosiery manufacturers still operating historic machinery. DESCRIPTION:Graham and Elizabeth are hosting a new event in Suffolk which we’re very much looking forward to. With several members signing up as soon as it was announced\, this is one to put in your diary! \nFor those wanting to make a weekend of it\, we have booked a table for supper on Friday evening at The Brook Inn\, Washbrook\, a country pub a mile away from the hotel. \nOn Saturday there are various places of interest including \n\nStonham Barns – shopping\, craft\, owl sanctuary\, tea shop\nChristchurch Mansion and park – magnificent Tudor mansion with original kitchens\, Georgian saloon and restored Victorian wing\nIpswich Waterfront – a cultural and historically significant area surrounding the marina in the town\n\nUse the London Road park and ride if you want to explore Ipswich on the Saturday – it offers a regular service\, free parking and EV charging. \nSaturday evening we will be meeting at the Best Western hotel in Ipswich. For those wishing to stay over\, Elizabeth has negotiated a rate for a superior double room with breakfast of £120 for both nights\, or £70 for Saturday night only. Book direct with the hotel and mention that you are part of Elizabeth Love-Mott’s party\, arranged with the general manager\, Moira Banks. \nNote that the hotel will not have a full food service on that weekend – we will be eating out on Friday night and have a hot and cold buffet arranged for the Saturday night. \nOn Saturday we’ll meet in the bar for drinks at 6.30pm\, then chat with friends until late. SUMMARY:Studio Day - Milton Keynes
DESCRIPTION:We’ve hired Saracen House Studio in Milton Keynes for Saturday 10th October\, 10am to 6pm. We’ll have exclusive use of the place\, it comes complete with lights\,  reflectors\, backdrops\, central heating and refreshments! \nThere are many couples in the group who enjoy taking photographs – us included – and this would be an opportunity to explore photography in a professional studio. \nThere is a lot of equipment included in the hire for those interested in playing with different lighting setups etc – realistically you’ll need a DSLR with hot shoe mount to make the most of that (although for those who are possessed of interest and enthusiasm but no equipment\, we have a couple of decent cameras available to borrow for the day). \nThe idea is to capture some of the vibe we experienced at last year’s Christmas Party\, in particular the now legendary “Saturday afternoon” slot\, an afternoon of fun\, fizz\, nibbles – and a lot of photographs! \nFirst and foremost this is a fun\, social event – a “bring a camera” party\, with no expectations\, no pressure. Come and do your own thing – share if you want\, dress how you please. Whether wanting to channel your inner Cecil Beaton\, photographing your muse in ball gown and tiara; Bunny Yeager snapping Bettie Page in leopard print; or just you\, a camera and the love of your life – you’ll be very welcome. \nFor those who’d like to make a weekend of it\, we will be staying at the Mercure Hotel in Milton Keynes\, meeting for dinner in the evening for those interested. \nCost is £40 per couple. Numbers are limited\, early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

DESCRIPTION:We return to the Abbey Hotel\, Redditch this year for a weekend’s Christmas Extravaganza! \nIf sufficient interest there will be supper for early arrivers on Friday night. SUMMARY:Seaton Pirate Festival - Devon
DESCRIPTION:After the great success of the first Seaton Pirate Festival earlier this year it was inevitable that the town would want to stage another one in 2027! Our illustrious editor and his good lady wife live in the town and were heavily involved in getting the first event off the ground (Jill memorably leading the Saturday afternoon parade\, sporting a tricorn\, cutlass and bearing the pirates’ banner!) \nIt’s a wonderful part of the country\, with Sidmouth next door and Exeter half an hour away – we thought that it would be an ideal place for a Meet & Mingle weekend\, taking in the Pirate Festival while we’re there. \nDetails to be confirmed – there are already a few members signed up for swashing and buckling next May\, why not make a long weekend of it and join us for a few days by the seaside?
